He Doesn't Care
But you knew that.
So we’re at war. Again. Like most of you, i woke up on Saturday to news that the U.S. — in conjunction with the IDF — had bombed several targets in Iran. The “good” news (I guess): they apparently bumped off Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several other senior Iranian government officials. The bad? Looks like we killed almost 150 civilians, 100 of whom were children, when we bombed a girls school in Minab. Oops.
If you count the strikes on alleged Latin American drug boats (killing an estimated 151 people), Trump has conducted military operations against eight countries in his second term. Most of these have been in the Persian Gulf region, raising variously unpleasant memories of another President’s forays into that area.
Trump notoriously campaigned on a peace platform, painting opponents Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris as warmongers who would lead the U.S. into disastrous foreign military entanglements. This after repeatedly claiming then-President Obama would use low poll numbers to justify a distracting campaign against — you guessed it — Iran.
This … “incongruity” has been pointed out pretty much nonstop since the most recent bombing started. Trump’s old tweets from his campaigns and his birther heyday are still easy to find, and find them people have. If you’re remotely political active on social media, yesterday was a nonstop stream of unearthed posts and Epstein files memes.
Admittedly, I don’t understand what this is for. Reinforcements from our echo chambers? A vague sense of self-satisfaction? Good old fashioned howling into the void? Because one thing apparent after 10 years of dealing with these goons, it’s that the hypocrisy is the point.
“There’s always a tweet,” goes the meme. As if sharing Trump’s Opposite Day posts and bemoaning “what if Obama had done [X]” yet again might be the one thing that finally worms through the President’s plaque-ravaged brain and causes him to see the error of his ways.
But that won’t happen, because he doesn’t care.
And it isn’t just Trump, though he’s the most glaringly obnoxious example; the Administration and its sycophants parroted the same “Trump = Peace” garbage leading up to both the 2016 and 2024 elections. These people are far from the only ones who’d say just about anything to get elected, but Trump has elevated it to an art form.
Broken campaign promises? Doesn’t care. Affordability? The word he briefly tried to co-opt before his poll numbers tanked again? Doesn’t care. The symbolism of the American flag he makes out with or the Bible he’s used as a prop? Doesn’t care. And the American casualties of a new war? You bet your ass he doesn’t care.*
He doesn’t even *really* care about “regime change,” the stated objective of this latest war. Even if the Iranian people improbably rose up en masse against the vast internal security state, we’d abandon them to their fates just like the Iraqis once a leader more amenable to overt bribery is installed.
So keep up the whataboutism and online rage all you want. No one in a position to influence Operation Epstein Fury will see it, and — all together now — they wouldn’t care if they did.
At the same time, you can stop quoting Orwell like some kind of gotcha. As with the Bible, I guarantee you none of those idiots have read it.
